Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born in Winona Minnesota. The name of her parents was derived from her hometown. Michel Horowitz was her father and Cynthia Palmer, his mother are both authors as well as editors. Ryder's father came from the Jewish family. Ryder thinks she's Jewish. The actress has a younger brother Uria and half-siblings Jubal as well as Sunyata. Ryder along with her whole family moved to California's Mendocino County at the age of seven. Ryder was just seven. At the time, there was no electricity. Ryder was a prolific reader due to the absence of television. Ryder was 12 when she enrolled at the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in 1983. She landed her debut role on the big screen in 1986, at the age of 15 older. Ryder endured bullying while in high school. Ryder was hopeful that her work as an actor would be able to make a difference. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. Still, she pursued her goal. Her breakthrough came in 1988 with Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder continued to play successful roles in various films. In 1993 she won an Oscar Awards to be awarded for The Age of Innocence.
